Changing from specific to generic social security is expensive

Argument: The cost of the personnel used to calculate all the different rules is small in comparison to the money it redistributes. We calculate the cost of

The UBI will give that money to everyone just like that and that cost will be a lot higher than that cost of the personnel and is as such a lot less efficient.

Counterarguments:

  • If those people cost (supposedly) 2 billion now, then they would bring in 6 billion if they would go work for the private sector.
  • Despite this system, a lot of people still live in poverty, which a UBI solves
  • This system creates a lot of uncertainty, creating fear with many people, creating healthcare costs...
  • This system leads to complicated legislation which costs money on government side, but also on the people's side

== Getting a higher wage is the best incentive for work

Argument: Because of a basic income, you need to tax more on the labour part and this will cause the differences in wages to become smaller. If you want to engage people in doing harder work (more innovation,...) clear differences in pay help a lot.

Counterarguments:

  • The difference in wages is not big in Belgium already
  • In a job, a lot of other factors are important. Salary should be righteous.
