This tutorial explains how to put the pirate events on your agenda : Help:Contents/Events/Thunderbird.

Some agenda will complain because the ical link is too long. For instance, NextCloud seems to truncate long urls, even when they are being shortened with classic url shorteners.

You can use this url shortener to solve this issue: Special:UrlShortener. Example : Special:UrlRedirector/6

EDIT: The calendar can now display the ending time of the events, but the ical links changed. So, I changed the shortened url accordingly.

I know there was a help page explaining how to put the pirate events on your own agenda, in online form (auto-updated). Not via the saved file, but as ical, I guess. Where is that page again ????? Spent 10 minutes searching the wiki without success... Thanks!

Yes, that's it! This link isn't in the wiki guide yet. I was trying to work on a new version of the guide (in French, here), but didn't manage to finish it... :(

thanks pals! I don't understand why my search for keyword thunderbird did not work then... Anyways, thanks.

Valerie (talkcontribs)

Oh the link does not work on the gnome agenda or my nextcloud online calendar... normal ? I thought the format should be recognised?

Maybe you will need to shorten the url, because the url is too complex or too long. It solves the issue for google calendars, for instance. You can use this url shortener : https://huit.re/

Let us know if this fixed the problem!

Valerie (talkcontribs)

No it still does not work. Nextcloud actually asks for an ical (? Apple format?) link... so I guess it won't work.

Hm, I tested with framagenda, which is a NextCloud instance, and it doesn't work indeed. I tried with a shorter link ()¹, and then it works. Somehow, it seems that NextCloud is truncating our wiki calendar links...

Best would be to open a ticket on github ^^

¹ You probably won't see the events in the calendar, because this link selects 10 unordered events... But I don't get any errors, so...

Valerie (talkcontribs)

with your link [1] it works... I don't get what I was doing wrong :-/

HgO (talkcontribs)

No, but this link doesn't take events ordered by date. It just takes 50 random events. You shouldn't use this link for a normal usage.

So, it was just an example to show that NextCloud don't like when the link is too long... This is a bug in NextCloud, and you didn't do anything wrong actually.

As a workaround, I installed a URL shortener on the wiki : Special:UrlShortener.

You can try with this link, normally this should work: .

Why would it works where other shorteners failed? I think that's because other shorteners make a permanent redirection (code 301), while with my url shortener, I make a temporary redirection (code 302). It seems that, when it is a permanent redirection, NextCloud chooses to use the target url instead, that is, the long url.

that works yes! ttttthaaaaaannnnks!
