The access to knowledge, technology and culture is a fundamental civil right. The current legislation concerning intellectual property, '''copyright''' and patent however is blocking this access. The Pirates do not accept that large organizations abuse '''copyright''' patent in order to protect their own position and make a profit at the expense of the community. It is in the interest of the community to continue to build on the previous achievements in technology, science and art.

De toegang tot kennis, technologie en cultuur is een fundamenteel burgerrecht. De huidige wetgeving omtrent intellectueel eigendom, auteurs- en patentrecht blokkeert echter deze toegang. De Piraten aanvaarden niet dat grote organisaties het auteurs- en patentrecht misbruiken om hun eigen positie te vrijwaren en winst te maken op kosten van de gemeenschap. Het is in het belang van de gemeenschap om verder te kunnen bouwen op de eerdere verwezenlijkingen in technologie, wetenschap en kunst.
