'''Commons''' are common goods which are built, managed and shared by a community. They can be both real (land, cooperatives) and virtual (information, knowledge, software). They transcend the logic of market and state, and that of nationalization and privatization. Members of the community can make free use of the '''commons''', without patents and without paying licenses. Mutual respect is the basic condition.

Commons zijn gemeenschapsgoederen die opgebouwd, beheerd en gedeeld worden door een community. Ze kunnen zowel reëel (grond, coöperatieven) als virtueel (informatie, kennis, software) zijn. Ze overstijgen de logica van markt en staat, en die van nationalisering en privatisering. De leden van de community kunnen vrij gebruik maken van de commons, zonder patenten en zonder het betalen van licenties. Wederzijds respect is de basisvoorwaarde.
