Het recht op privacy voor burgers

  1. Het recht op privacy moet de burgers beschermen tegen eventueel misbruik door de machthebbers (= grote organisaties zoals staten en bedrijven).
  2. Onder privacy verstaan de Piraten het recht op discretie (= geheimhouding van correspondentie, persoonlijke data, financiële situatie), het recht om anoniem te zijn en het recht op zelfbeschikking.
  3. Privacy is volgens de Piraten een noodzakelijke voorwaarde voor individuele vrijheid. Onder het mom van veiligheid wil de staat steeds meer weten over haar burgers. De Piraten zijn niet bereid om onze privacy op te geven voor die vermeende veiligheid.
  4. Geheimhouding mag nooit verder gaan dan de bescherming van het individu en mag nooit andere individuen schaden. Het recht op privacy mag alleen geschonden worden als er solide en individu-specifieke verdenkingen zijn, en dit enkel door de bevoegde autoriteiten.
  5. Anonimiteit ontheft niemand van de verantwoordelijkheid voor hun daden.
